Shyla Sheppard Joins NMCC
August 16, 2005
Santa Fe - Shyla Sheppard joins New Mexico Community Capital (NMCC) as a
Fund Analyst. Her responsibilities include research and analysis on
companies for potential investment by NMCC. Shyla will meet company
executives, conduct research on market opportunities and competition and
will manage data on NMCC portfolio companies.
Tom Keleher, NMCC Managing Director, is thrilled that Sheppard has joined
New Mexico Community Capital. "NMCC is very fortunate to count Shyla as a
member of our team. She brings a high level of enthusiasm, focus, and common
sense that will benefit all the stakeholders in our organization."
Sheppard, a North Dakota native and member of the Three Affiliated
Tribes, was raised on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation where her family
still resides. Sheppard graduated from Stanford University in 2004 with a BA
in Economics. During her final quarter at Stanford, she took a class about
venture capital that sparked her interest. From that experience, she decided
that Venture Capital was the field to pursue. NMCC, which manages a
Community Development Venture Capital (CDVC) Fund proved to be just the
right fit.
Community Development Venture Capital Funds focus on generating social as
well as financial returns. Having been raised on a reservation in rural
North Dakota, Sheppard is particularly interested in the double bottom-line
model as a way of creating economic opportunity and community wealth.
"I am so fortunate to be a member of this pioneering NMCC team and excited about being a part of its future success," says Sheppard, "CDVC is still somewhat of an uncharted territory, but I know we've got what it takes to prove that this is more than just an ideal."
